Well, apparently I didn't actually get three negative votes after all! The moderator just let me know that it was a spreadsheet error - the negative votes for a different story showed up in my row instead. So I actually got two positives and no negatives, putting me in second place for the round rather than second-last place.

What a massive relief - I'd been wracking my brain trying to figure out where I went wrong!

Yay! Do you know what your overall standing is?

I don't think there's really such a thing as overall standing - each challenge is calculated independently, with the lowest-ranking authors being dropped. But basically, my first two stories got no votes, good or bad, then I used two skips in a row during a work crunch, and then my next two stories got two positive votes each, placing each one in second place in the challenge they were in.

I don't really expect to be the ultimate winner of this - my guess is that that's going to be [Bad username or site: etiam quietus @ livejournal.com], though I certainly could be wrong. But I'll be happy if I can stick it out to be one of the last two or three.

That's awesome. It's like a Community Chest card from Monopoly: Spreadsheet error in your favour. Pass Go, get $200.
